Manipur is in the grip of a major security alert after intelligence inputs suggest infiltration of more than 900 Kuki militants into the state from Myanmar, India Today reported.
According to India Today, which cited the intelligence assessment, “They are supposedly organized into units of thirty members each, presently dispersed throughout the periphery, and are anticipated to launch numerous coordinated attacks on Meitei villages around September 28, 2024.”
It has been stated that these terrorists have received training in the use of rockets, projectiles, drone-based bombs, and jungle warfare. Security Advisor to Manipur Kuldeep Singh confirmed the intelligence information, saying, “The intelligence report cannot be taken lightly,” according to NDTV. “Until and until it is proven wrong, we believe that it is 100% correct,” he continued.
It’s crucial to remember that, according to Kuldeep Singh, security services in the state have not yet adopted Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) pertaining to drone use.
The SOP forbids using these devices without authorization from the appropriate authorities. The intelligence report was given to all Senior Superintendents of Police in the southern Manipur districts that border Myanmar on Thursday.
This development occurs against the backdrop of armed ethnic group battles in Chin State, Myanmar, and other states opposing the government. Given that India and Myanmar share a border, there have been some reports of violence near the border. Furthermore, there have been cases where junta troops have overrun the Chin State insurgents and then sneaked into India.
