Smoke billows over Beirut southern suburbs after an Israeli strike as seen from Sin el-Fil, Lebanon

Israeli forces have reported the killing of another senior Hezbollah commander in a strike on the Lebanese capital. The Israeli army said in a statement on X on Tuesday that Suhail Hussein Husseini, head of the Hezbollah headquarters, was killed as its fighter jets “targeted the Beirut area”

Israel has claimed major success since last month, when it began targeting the Lebanese armed group’s chain of command in a series of attacks that killed numerous civilians.

The army described Husseini’s killing as another critical blow to Hezbollah. He was involved in weapons transfers between Iran and the group, as well as the distribution of illicit weapons among Hezbollah forces, according to the report. Husseini was also in charge of the budgeting and logistics for Hezbollah’s “most sensitive projects,” such as preparing assaults on Israel from Lebanon and Syria, according to the report.

Israel has dealt severe blows to Hezbollah and its allies Hamas by assassinating their leaders and commanders since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7 of last year, which prompted Israel to commence its continuing war on Gaza.

Israel murdered longstanding Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an air strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs late last month, dealing the organization its most severe blow in decades. Over the last few months, Israeli troops have murdered a number of prominent Hezbollah officials.
