Following the failure of the Paris Olympics 2024, India’s top shuttler PV Sindhu has pursued a new path. Sindhu’s father, PV Ramana, has indicated that despite her decision to take a hiatus to restore her enthusiasm for badminton, she would still seek gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The 29-year-old will return to action in the next European season, and she chose the same coach as fellow shuttler Lakshya Sen.
Sindhu’s father stated that even though she has nothing left to prove, she has recovered her will to compete for further Asian Games success. “Sindhu has nothing more to prove, but she still believes she can compete at the Asian Games,” Ramana told The Indian Express. Sindhu has silver and bronze medals at the Asian Games, but no gold, the same at the Olympics.
Sindhu will be accompanied on her European trip by former badminton player Anup Sridhar, who formerly coached Lakshya Sen till January 2024. Her contract with her previous coach, Indonesia’s Agus Dwi Santoso, expired following the Olympics.
“With Agus’ contract coming to an end, we are seeking a new coach. We’re excited to see how a relationship with Anup Sridhar goes, and we’re looking at 4-5 names for the future. Anup will go to Finland and train her in Hyderabad in the following days,”
Ramana also disclosed that former Korean coach Park Tae-Sung was considered but was not hired. It’s just that both Sindhu and I thought the collaboration wasn’t working out and producing results,” he explained.
