In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, India qualified for the round of Super 8 by beating the USA. This was India’s third win at the tournament in three matches. In their campaign, India has won all the group-stage matches. India sits at the top of Group A with 6 points.
In total, there are 20 teams in this edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. All the top two teams in Groups A, B, C, and D will qualify for the round of eight. But the teams in the bottom three spots from the four groups will be eliminated.
India First To Qualify From Group A In The T20 World Cup
After the win over the USA, India became the first team to qualify for the Super 8 from Group A. India won the first match against Ireland by 8 wickets on June 5. In the second match, Men in Blue won against their rivals Pakistan by six runs on June 9. In the third match yesterday, Team India won by 7 wickets against the USA. While India struggled in the second and third matches, they are in good form to win the T20 World Cup title.
India has only one match left in the group stage of the tournament. In the last group-stage match, India will play against Canada on June 15 at 8 p.m. On June 19, the Super 8 matches of the T20 World Cup will begin.
Which Teams Have Qualified For Super 8 So Far?
So far, Australia, India, the West Indies, and South Africa have qualified for the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup. These are the four teams that have qualified for the next round of the tournament after winning all three matches played so far. India qualified from Group A, Australia from Group B, the West Indies from Group C, and South Africa from Group D. All these teams share the same points (6) but have different Net Run Rates (NRR).
For the next round, these four teams are divided into two groups. Group one consists of Australia and India. Group two consists of South Africa and the West Indies. The Super Eight will have four more teams. Two teams for each group after they qualify for the Super 8.
India has a good chance to win this year’s T20 World Cup title. It should be noted that India has not won an ICC trophy in the last 13 years. The last time India won an ICC trophy was in 2013 when they won the ICC Champions Trophy. India had a chance to end this drought, but they lost the Cricket World Cup Final in 2023.
