The Israel vs. Hamas war has been ongoing in Gaza for the last nine months. In another escalation, Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire every day for the last nine months. However, there has not been an all-out war on the northern side of Israel. But with the escalating situation, an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah seems inevitable.
The US, Canada, Australia, the European Union (EU), and some member states of the Arab League designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
The war in Gaza has been at a minimum in the last few weeks. The military has fought with and defeated the majority of Hamas battalions in Gaza. With this military success, the forces have defeated Hamas in all the areas of Gaza except Rafah. Rafah is at the border with Egypt. Rafah is Hamas’ last stronghold. As a result, the focus is shifting towards Israel’s north.
Israel Kills Hezbollah’s Top Commander
On Tuesday, the Israel Air Forces (IAF) struck a Hezbollah command control center used to direct attacks from southeastern Lebanon. The strike happened in the area of Jouaiyya, Lebanon. The IAF precisely struck and eliminated Hezbollah’s top commander, Sami Taleb Abdullah. Abdullah was part of Hezbollah’s Nasr Unit. The strike also eliminated three other members of Hezbollah.
Israel killed Sami Taleb Abdullah, considered the top commander killed since the war with Hamas started. Abdullah was one of Hezbollah’s most senior commanders in south Lebanon. According to the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and the Israeli media, Abdullah, for years, planned, advanced, and carried out a large number of terror attacks against Israeli civilians. It is expected that Hezbollah will seek revenge for this strike.
Hezbollah Stepping Up Their Attacks
In the last few weeks, the terrorist organization Hezbollah has increased its attacks on Israeli areas. Hezbollah lit up the forests of northern Israel with rocket barrages on June 3 and 4. Ynet reported that “Some 15 active fire sites were reported in the Glilee-Golan region alone, most resulting from rocket fire on an exceptionally hot day, with temperatures exceeding 109 degrees in Kiryat Shmona and the Sea of Galilee area.”
Following the rocket barrages, the fires raged for days in northern areas. The fires threatened the city of Kiryat Shmona, which had already been evacuated. On June 4, a fire ignited in the Biriya forest. Most of the fires were under control by the morning of the same day. To control the fires, firefighters had to battle the raging blazes.
A report published by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) says that Hezbollah’s attacks doubled in May, according to the report by the Alma Research and Education Center. According to the report, there was a sharp increase in the use of anti-tank missiles and UAVs compared to April 2024. In May, they fired 95 anti-tank missiles, compared with 50 in April. 85 UAVs in May and 42 in April.
