Out-of-favour India batsman Prithvi Shaw is having a difficult time in cricket. He couldn’t find any buyers during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning skipper was regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket, but his recent struggles have pushed him out of contention for the Indian cricket team.
What’s worse is that Shaw will not be playing in the IPL in the coming season. His name appeared twice at the auction, and despite a base price of Rs 75 lakh, not a single paddle was raised for him.
This is the first time Shaw has missed an IPL season since his debut in 2018. Aside from his lack of form, Shaw has faced criticism for his behavior and fitness from several former India players and analysts. Now, a former India selector has questioned his progress.
“Prithvi has been with Delhi Capitals. “In DC, he had the opportunity to interact with Rahul Dravid, who was also his U-19 India coach, Ricky Ponting, and Sourav Ganguly,” said a former India selector who has closely seen Shaw.
“It is widely known in Mumbai cricket that Tendulkar has also spoken with him. Are these legends incorrect? Do you notice any change in him? At the IPL 2025 auction, no one was interested in Shaw, who had burst into Indian fans’ collective consciousness with his boyish charm and a game to match.
But six years is a long time, and after being rejected for the IPL, Shaw is now at a crossroads in his career, which can either go boom or crash depending on what he wants to do with his talent.
