After the state Lokayukta recently filed a formal complaint (FIR) regarding the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which has put the Congress leader in serious difficulty, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday launched a money-laundering case against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others.

To formalize the allegations, the ED has started an enforcement case information report (ECIR), according to official sources who spoke with PTI.

The news agency said that the names included in the FIR include the chief minister, his wife B.M. Parvathi, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraju, who was the source of the land that Swamy later donated to Parvathi.

In this instance, the ED is relying on provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which gives the agency the authority to examine people and perhaps seize assets while conducting an investigation.

Siddaramaiah has always refuted the allegations and maintained that he is the target of political persecution. In addition, he has said that he will not stand down from his position as head of the government, even in the face of repeated calls from the BJP for him to do so. He has the backing of the leaders of his party.

The Lokayukta police launched an FIR against the CM Siddaramaiah and others in the site allotment matter on Friday.

The FIR raises questions regarding the validity of the land deals by claiming that Siddaramaiah’s wife was wrongfully given compensation plots in a more wealthy region of Mysuru. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) lists a number of offences, including dishonest misappropriation, forgery, criminal conspiracy, and misconduct by public servants.

It was filed under several Indian Penal Code provisions, including 351, 420, 340, IPC 09, and 120B.

In relation to this, a special court earlier on Wednesday ordered that Siddaramaiah be the subject of a Lokayukta police inquiry. In this instance, the ED is relying on provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which gives the agency the authority to examine people and perhaps seize assets while conducting an investigation.
