The conflict between lawyers and the District Judge at Ghaziabad Court in Uttar Pradesh has worsened. This incident is being criticized by everyone involved. Legal groups have condemned the law enforcement’s use of lathi on the legal professionals. The Supreme Court Bar Association and the All India Lawyers Union, the All India Organization of Lawyers, have criticized this event and urged for a judicial investigation to be conducted. At the same time, all Bar Associations in Delhi have declared a strike on Monday, 4 November.
The committee released a statement on Sunday, November 3, announcing that a crucial and urgent meeting of the Coordination Committee of all the Bar Associations in Delhi took place on the same day. It was unanimously agreed during the meeting that lawyers will participate in a strike on November 4 to show strong disapproval of the violent assault on a lawyer in Ghaziabad by the police as directed by the District Judge.
There will be a strike among all lawyers in Uttar Pradesh. No court in the state will have any work. At this time, the lawyers will also stage a protest about the incident. The hearing scheduled in the Bahraich case at the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Monday may be unlikely due to the ongoing lawyers’ strike.
In fact, on 29th October, District Judge Anil Kumar engaged in a disagreement with the attorneys during a court session in Ghaziabad. Because they disagreed with the judge, the lawyers were chanting slogans against him. While this was happening, the attorneys damaged the court building by tossing chairs and other objects. The authorities summoned the police to evict the lawyers who were protesting. The police resorted to lathicharge in order to handle the situation with the lawyers.
Certain attorneys asserted they were harmed during the lathi charge carried out by the police, while law enforcement officials accused the demonstrating lawyers of setting a nearby police station ablaze. The Ghaziabad Bar Association has demanded that the strike be extended until the District Judge and the police officers involved in the lathicharge are transferred.
