In Rajasthan’s Kota region, a class 12 kid who was purportedly fighting depression, allegedly committed herself by jumping off the 12th floor, according to police officials on Wednesday.
Tuesday was the incidental day for Jitya, as she was seeing her aunt at the Tripolis Building in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. Following a postmortem, the student, whose name was Jitya Khandelwal, was given to her family.
According to the SHO, “On Tuesday evening around 7 p.m., Nitin dropped Jiya under the multi-storeyed building of her aunt’s house. Her aunt resides on the third floor of the building. However, Jitya, instead of going to her aunt’s house, took the extreme step.”
Jitya (19), a resident of Cantonment, Kota, is the eldest of two sisters, and her father Nitin Khandelwal runs a nursing home in the city, according to Jawahar Nagar police station SHO Harinarayan Sharma.
They alerted the police and hurried her to the hospital. According to the authorities, the reason behind the drastic measure is still unknown.
“As per preliminary investigation, the girl jumped off the 12th floor. She died by suicide due to depression. Her family members are also in shock after the death of their daughter. The reason for the suicide will be known only after talking to the family members and a post-mortem report is received. At present, the investigation is being carried out keeping all aspects in mind,” stated DSP Rajesh Taylor.
The Kota government has been finding it difficult to control the city’s soaring suicide death toll.
The city, which is renowned for serving as a coaching centre for competitive exams, reported 26 suicide-related deaths in 2023. This is the highest number of deaths of this kind that Kota has ever seen.
More investigation is ongoing.
