As enthusiasts of the British monarchy eagerly await Kate Middleton’s reappearance after her notable absence, Buckingham Palace has shared an uncommon update regarding the Prince, Princess of Wales, and King Charles.
Kate is set to miss the Colonel’s Review, the traditional rehearsal for Trooping the Colour, on June 8. In a change from tradition, King Charles III has also decided not to partake in horseback riding during the Trooping the Colour ceremony on June 15. Instead, he and Queen Camilla will travel in a carriage, as confirmed by the Palace via Daily Mail.
King Charles and Camilla plan to inspect the troops at his official birthday parade while riding in an Ascot Landau carriage. This modification is reportedly based on medical advice, as the King is currently receiving cancer treatment.
Regarding who will lead the Colonel’s Review, the Palace has announced that Lieutenant General James Bucknall, who previously led the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, will be stepping in for Kate. The Princess of Wales, traditionally saluting in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, will be absent this year due to her ongoing battle with cancer and chemotherapy treatments.
This news follows a correction by the Army, which had initially stated on its website in March that Catherine would be present at Trooping the Colour and had begun ticket sales, leading to confusion. This was cleared up after Kensington Palace had not confirmed her attendance.
