Lebanon’s military group Hezbollah has confirmed the death of one of its top commanders, amidst Israel’s heavy shelling of the nation.
Hezbollah verified Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi’s death in a Telegram post early Wednesday, hours after the Israeli military stated he was “eliminated” in an air attack on Ghobeiri in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Israeli sources say Qubaisi, also known as “Hajj Abu Musa,” led a number of Hezbollah missile and rocket squads and was responsible for a 2000 attack that kidnapped and murdered three Israeli troops.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, the Israeli strike killed six individuals and injured another 15. Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed at least 569 people and injured 1,835 others since Monday, according to Lebanese health officials.
It’s a very tense atmosphere, a lot of people are very worried,” said Al Jazeera’s Oliver Marsden, reporting from Beirut.
