Zepto, the rapid commerce business helmed by CEO and co-founder Aadit Palicha, published Diwali sales figures indicating a high demand for traditional and festive items across its platform. From Soan Papdi boxes to gift bags, here’s what fueled Diwali sales.
Zepto reported delivering over seven lakh boxes of Soan Papdi, a Diwali delicacy that is frequently connected with regifting. The dessert, traditionally shared from one household to another throughout the festive season, appears to have found a more permanent home among Zepto’s customer base this year, as houses across India placed direct purchases.
Zepto’s Diwali appeal included over 10 million gift boxes and 69,000 custom-designed holiday bags distributed nationally. Sales of decorative lights increased by 20x, and sales of coins, which are often used in ceremonies and gifts, increased ninefold over the previous year.
Sales of traditional diyas, or little clay lamps, increased sixfold compared to the previous Diwali season. Indian sweets (mithai) grew tenfold, whereas candies increased sevenfold. The findings indicate a shift in consumer behavior, with urban buyers increasingly resorting to platforms like Zepto for necessities and holiday gifts. The Diwali sales statistics provide a look into developing preferences, demonstrating how digital channels are becoming essential.
