Elon Musk’s social network company X was told by the Brazilian Supreme Court on Thursday to refrain from attempting to overturn an earlier judgment that had suspended the platform in the nation or face a daily punishment of 5 million reais ($921,726.95).
On Wednesday, X was made available to a large number of Brazilian customers after a communications network update got around the court-ordered prohibition. As per the ruling, a fine of 5 million reals has already been levied due to it. Following months of legal wrangling between Musk and Brazilian Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court of Brazil ordered the blocking of the site by its mobile and internet service providers in August, with customers being cut off within hours.
Moraes stated in his most recent decision, which was issued late on Wednesday, “There is no doubt that X, under Elon Musk’s direct command, again intends to disrespect Brazil’s Judiciary,” adding that the platform has a “strategy” in place to get around the prohibition.CNN Brasil said on Thursday that X was currently preparing to abide by Brazilian court judgments to continue its service in the nation, citing attorneys supporting the platform’s defense in the nation.
Previously, courts have forced X to designate a local representative as required by Brazilian law, and they have banned accounts linked to investigations into the purported dissemination of hate speech and twisted news—a move Musk has criticized as censorship.
