Riot Games, the studio that brought us League of Legends and Netflix’s Arcane series, is returning to the world of actual card games. The physical card trading game, codenamed Project K, will be set in Runeterra and will draw inspiration from the League of Legends setting for its champion designs.
The video shows that the game will be playable in the famous 1v1 trading card game (TCG) format, but Turbo says it can be played as well in groups of up to four players in two-person teams.
Project K, like other TCG titles such as Magic: The Gathering and the digital card game Hearthstone, will have a mana system that lets players play two Runes per round, each with an associated spell cost. The game is intended for people who prefer to play games face-to-face.
It also features social free-for-all models, allowing you to form alliances and betray others. If you’re not in the mood to compete, the game designers say you can play friendly matches instead. The game creators also provided examples of decks such as Viktor’s strategy deck, Volibear’s sheer power, and Yasuo’s far less aggressive strategy.
The business also intends to hold events in local game stores to help build a community, with hopes to organize worldwide competitions later. Riot says Project K will first be available in China, where it is working with an unknown partner to release the game in 2025. However, the business has not stated when the game will be released in additional territories.
