Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the sixth-generation E-Class long-wheelbase (LWB) in India, with prices beginning at Rs 78.5 lakh for the E 200 petrol variant. The E 220d diesel is priced at Rs 81.5 lakh, while the top-tier E 450 4Matic costs Rs 92.5 lakh. Deliveries for the E 200 begin this week, the E 220d will be available around Diwali, and the E 450 in mid-November. Only in India is this LWB variant available in right-hand drive.
The new E-Class costs Rs 2.5 lakh more than the previous version and Rs 5.6 lakh more than its main competition, the BMW 5 Series, which begins at Rs 72.9 lakh.
Engine Options
E 450: 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (381 horsepower), 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Features AWD.
E 200: 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol (204 horsepower).
E 220d: 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel (197 horsepower). All engines are equipped with mild-hybrid technology for further power and are linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior Design
The new E-Class looks different, with a larger grille, new LED headlights, and flush door handles similar to the S-Class. It also has 18-inch wheels and upgraded LED taillights. The back seat is a standout, providing additional luxury with reclining chairs, thigh support, neck cushions, and sun shades. The interior also has a 14.4-inch center screen, a 12.3-inch passenger screen, and a 12.3-inch instrument panel, known as the Superscreen.
This E-Class is the first Mercedes produced in India to include a front center airbag and Level 2 driver assistance systems. It has a particularly adjusted suspension for Indian roads, with a focus on rear-seat comfort, and has been safety certified in both Spain and Germany.
