Instagram has launched a new feature called ‘Profile Cards,’ which aims to make sharing your account more entertaining. This two-sided digital card shows crucial facts about your Instagram profile, such as a scannable QR code, profile photo, bio, and a new option to personalize with a background image, links, or even a song of your choice. It effectively functions as a digital business card for your Instagram account, offering a simple and creative method to introduce yourself online.

The new feature blends functionality and personalization. One side of the card displays your profile information, such as your handle, bio, and category (personal, creator, or company). You can also select to include a song, making it more lively and thoughtful.  

Profile Cards serve both creators and pros, as well as casual consumers. For authors and businesses, it’s a useful tool for visually sharing contact information and crucial links. Regular users can use the card to easily connect with others, providing a convenient option to broaden their network or promote their Instagram presence.

How to Create and Customise Your Profile Card

To begin, navigate to your Instagram profile, press “Share Profile,” and then click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner to change your Profile Card. To personalize it, you can alter the backdrop, add links, or choose a song. Once you’re satisfied with the design, you may share it in your Instagram story or download it as an image. 

The Profile Card also has an “Add to Story” option, which generates a rotating, two-sided display of the card, allowing you to show off your customized design in a more interactive fashion.

A new tool for Generation Z and beyond.

Instagram’s parent company, Meta, claims this functionality is part of a larger effort to fulfill the demands of Generation Z users, who increasingly see their Instagram profiles as a digital resume. According to a recent survey, more than half of Gen Z respondents want to be influencers, therefore tools like Profile Cards are vital for self-promotion and personal branding.

Although Instagram has employed QR codes for account sharing since 2018, the new Profile Cards provide a more complete and versatile experience. This tool has the potential to help people network, collaborate, and build their audience by providing them with a fun and creative way to communicate their interests and personalities. It’s now available worldwide, allowing users a new method to promote themselves on Instagram and elsewhere.
