IndiGo, India’s biggest low-cost airline, had a severe network outage on Saturday, resulting in widespread delays to aircraft operations and ground services across the country. The technology breakdown resulted in people being delayed at airports, with many unable to board aircraft or purchase tickets, causing lengthy delays and escalating resentment among travelers.

The outage affected many critical systems, including IndiGo’s website and booking system. Passengers took to social media to express their indignation. “It’s good to invest in new aircraft, but how about improving ground services?” one user on X said, citing delays at Bangalore’s Terminal 1. 

Another traveler commented, “Airport looks like a railway station” because of the massive crowds created by the system breakdown. IndiGo confirmed the problem in a statement, characterizing it as a “temporary system slowdown” that impacted their network. . IndiGo also informed passengers that their crew was completely dedicated to restoring normalcy and aiding travelers.

The network disruption comes as IndiGo maintains its supremacy in India’s domestic aviation market. Domestic aviation traffic increased 6% year on year in August, totaling 13.1 million passengers. IndiGo’s market share climbed by 40 basis points, taking it to 62.4%, according to latest data.
