Google Maps has added three new features to let users explore the globe and understand how it is developing. Google Earth’s historical photography has been improved, as has Street View coverage and satellite photographs.  Historical photography allows you to see how locations looked decades ago, while Street View currently covers over 80 countries, allowing you to explore new areas visually. Furthermore, improved satellite photographs use AI to remove clouds and haze, yielding crisper maps. These features enable you to better understand environmental changes and explore places from anywhere.

The first addition is Google Earth’s historical imagery, which is now accessible via the web and mobile. This version allows users to travel back in time and study satellite and aerial photographs from the last 80 years. You can now see how various areas, cities, and landscapes have grown over time. For example, during a drought, Lake Oroville in California lost a substantial amount of water, but historical photography shows how rain eventually replaced it. Cities such as San Francisco, London, and Berlin contain decades-old images depicting how metropolitan environments have changed. Whether you’re interested in environmental changes or how cities have grown, this new tool offers an intriguing look into the past.

The second upgrade is an extension of Street View. Google has released fresh Street View imagery in about 80 nations, some of which are seeing the function for the first time.

This substantial enhancement allows users to digitally explore new places including Bosnia’s medieval villages, Namibia’s sandy highlands, and Paraguay’s rivers. This not only enhances virtual tourism but also allows users to explore city streets from afar. Google plans to enhance Street View coverage in the future by creating a new, lightweight camera that can be put on any vehicle.

Argentina, France, Japan, Mexico, and South Africa are among the nations that have gotten new Street View updates. Finally, Google has increased the visual quality of Google Earth and Maps using AI-powered technologies. Google’s Cloud Score+ AI technology eliminates clouds, mist, and haze from satellite images, resulting in cleaner and more colorful views of the planet. Simultaneously, crucial real-world components like snow, ice, and mountain shadows are kept, resulting in a more authentic representation of landscapes. This AI-driven advancement allows people all across the world to see clearer, higher-quality photos.
