Nearly two years after its PlayStation debut, God of War Ragnarok has finally arrived on PC, delivering Kratos and Atreus’ epic quest to a new audience. This PC version, developed by Sony Santa Monica and ported by Jetpack Interactive, includes the expected additions, such as ultrawide compatibility, upscaling choices, and enhanced frame rates, giving it the ultimate method to play this highly acclaimed game.
Performance: A Notable Upgrade
The PC version of God of War Ragnarok performs noticeably better than its console counterpart. On an RTX 3080Ti and AMD Ryzen 5 5600X machine, the game constantly exceeded 80 frames per second at 1440p resolution with the highest “Ultra” setting. DLSS further improved performance. The preset uses FSR 3.1 and largely Medium settings. This portable performance outperforms the original PS4 version, demonstrating the port’s optimization efforts.
Problems with the technology Limit the Experience
While the PC port provides better performance, it is not without problems. Several graphical flaws were discovered during testing, including wrongly displayed UI components and cases of forced slow motion. Occasional crashes spoiled the experience, although they were primarily limited to the introductory sequences and could most certainly be fixed in future releases.
Missed opportunities for improvement. Despite the graphics and speed improvements, the PC version of God of War Ragnarok misses more major advancements such as ray tracing. This absence is quite surprising given the long wait for the PC release.
Overall Verdict
The PC port of God of War Ragnarok is a good offering that lets PC gamers enjoy this amazing game with improved visuals and performance. While minor technical flaws and the lack of more modern features like ray tracing detract from its overall polish, it is nevertheless a rewarding experience for those who have not previously played the game on PlayStation. For those who have, the PC version provides a more visually appealing and smoother experience, but it may not be worth replaying unless you want the best performance and graphic fidelity.
