Global Communications Net AD (GCN), a well-known telecom company in Bulgaria with a vast fiber optic network covering more than 2,500 kilometers, has agreed to be acquired by EXA Infrastructure. EXA’s presence in South-Eastern Europe will be greatly increased by this acquisition, which will also strengthen its regional strategic assets.

Subject to customary circumstances, the acquisition, which is being facilitated by DB Capital Ltd, KND Partnership Ltd, and Sofia Connect EAD, is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024. EXA’s network will reach 155,000 kilometers across 37 countries by integrating GCN’s products, which include dark fiber, wavelength, and colocation services. This will provide vital access to important interconnection sites in North Macedonia, Serbia, Georgia, Türkiye, Greece, and Romania.

Along with these advantages, GCN’s vast network infrastructure—which spans more than 2,500 kilometers of owned duct and cable and connects Sofia to Bulgaria’s borders and cities along the Black Sea coast—will also benefit EXA Infrastructure. This network creates a crucial east-west route and is necessary for undersea cables, both present and future. In addition, EXA plans to purchase 100 kilometers of Sofia’s metro network, which would improve communication between important data centers and commercial districts.
