On Saturday, the road outside Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi was as congested as the stadium itself, as Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh began his “Dil-Luminati India Tour 2024.” Among the numerous fans caught in traffic was Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, who had to leave his car and walk the final leg of his journey. He posted a video of the bumper-to-bumper traffic on social media, captioned “Walking the last mile to the JLN stadium for Diljit.” “There’s so much traffic.” Later, he tweeted another update with a relieved “Finally inside” after getting through security, demonstrating how far some fans went to see the event.
Following spectacular performances in the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, Dosanjh returned to India with a large fan base eagerly anticipating his shows. His Diwali-timed show in Delhi drew large crowds, with some fans reporting lengthy delays as they attempted to approach the stadium. Many people rushed to social media to complain about traffic, with some claiming that the regular 15-minute stretch took them nearly two hours to navigate.
The Delhi Police had deployed around 3,000 officers surrounding the stadium to prepare for the massive throng at the show. They expected approximately 35,000 people to attend and stationed plainclothes cops and CCTV cameras throughout the area for added security. Despite these attempts, spectators faced enormous lines outside that stretched several kilometers.
Delhi’s roads are at a stop.
Before the concert, Delhi Police issued advice for traffic closures and diversions near the stadium from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on both concert days. Despite restrictions on big trucks, traffic remained congested in all directions due to the concert rush.
Dosanjh’s India tour is only getting begun. After Delhi, he will play in other important cities such as Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore. And, perhaps, fans will not have to traverse the same congested crowds as Goyal and other Delhi concertgoers did.
Recently, Goyal has earned waves for his hands-on leadership style at Zomato. Earlier this month, he donned a Zomato delivery jacket and assisted his wife, Gia, in making meal deliveries in Gurgaon.
The couple documented their journey on Instagram, posting images as they navigated routes and served food. Fans praised the CEO’s approachable attitude, with many enjoying his direct connection to the company’s main offering.
