The opening of the Chennai facility signals Cisco’s ongoing commitment to expanding its production and technological capabilities in India while supporting the global demand for advanced networking infrastructure.

Cisco opened its first manufacturing plant in India on Friday, in Chennai, marking the start of a multi-year investment plan to expand the company’s production capabilities in the nation.

This strategic decision is estimated to create more than USD 1.3 billion in yearly revenue, including exports and local output while generating 1,200 employees in Tamil Nadu.

Cisco’s Chennai factory, in collaboration with Flex, will initially focus on manufacturing the Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series routers, with plans to expand production in the future. The new location will support modern telecom technology, according to Cisco, which will “produce a range of best-in-class routing and switching products to meet the growing technology needs of organizations in India and globally.”

Cisco stressed that this facility represents a significant extension of its worldwide manufacturing presence, as well as a new era in its 25-year collaboration with Flex.

The facility will see more innovation, including breakthroughs in printed circuit board assembly and the creation of items designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. Cisco also stated that this investment is part of a larger plan to improve technical production capabilities for a broader set of customers and industry categories.

The launch of the Chennai plant demonstrates Cisco’s continuous commitment to increasing its manufacturing and technology capabilities in India while meeting global demand for sophisticated networking infrastructure.
