Apple is rushing to release a revised version of its digital voice assistant Siri that has improved conversational skills powered by generative AI. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone maker recently posted job advertisements indicating that it is committed to developing a more conversational AI version of Siri.

“You will be working with a team that is reshaping computing, creating new conversational partner technologies that include large-scale networks and new client machines, and with the team members have built the smart workers,” reportedly said one of these job descriptions. The organization is presently looking for applicants who are knowledgeable about conversational AI interfaces and related technologies, it noted. The updated voice assistant, internally code-named ‘LLM Siri’, is slated to be part of the tech giant’s premier AI service, Apple Intelligence.

According to Bloomberg, Apple fans may be able to see a glimpse of the new Siri in the company’s future iOS 19 and macOS 16 software updates, which are expected to be released sometime next year. However, the functionality will not be fully available to all users until 2026. Siri’s new version is being built using powerful large language models (LLMs) to ensure that consumers may hold back-and-forth talks with it. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth is also leaning on AI to help Siri handle more complex requests.

While Apple developers have been testing the AI-enhanced Siri on iPhones, iPads, and Macs via a separate app, the program is likely to eventually replace the Siri interface on current Apple devices. Siri was first introduced by Apple over 13 years ago. In June of this year, the business announced that AI would help signal “the start of a new era” for the digital voice assistant.

However, Apple has neglected to alter the software, with subsequent improvements published under the Apple Intelligence label focused primarily on cosmetic enhancements like as a new, luminous Siri interface. Users who have downloaded the iOS 18 software update now have the added option of typing commands to Siri.
