Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma recently said that wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant devised a superb strategy that disturbed South Africa’s rhythm during the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The match was heading for a close conclusion, with South Africa requiring 30 runs off 30 balls, and it appeared that India would need something to shift the tide in their favor. Pant had to quit the game due to a knee injury, and the physio came inside the ground to tap his knee. Rohit claimed that the incident helped slow down the game, and India went on to win the title with a fantastic performance. Pant broke his silence on Rohit’s claim and revealed that he requested the physio to take his time.
“I was thinking about it. Because suddenly, the momentum altered. There were plenty of runs in 2-3 overs. So I was wondering when this time would come again when you were playing in the World Cup Final. So I was urging the physio, “Take your time, and keep wasting time.”
Rishabh Pant: The Momentum Breaker…!!!
Pant told the story of his injuries during the T20 World Cup final when South Africa required 26 from 24.”He asked whether I was okay. I assured him I was only acting. I’m not claiming it always works in such a match situation, but it does work sometimes. Rishabh Pant: And if it works in such a moment, you want nothing else. Rohit previously recalled the entire situation during an episode of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.
Pant utilized his wits to pause the game – he had a knee issue, so he taped it, which helped slow down the game – since the game was fast-paced, and all a batsman wants at that point is for the ball to be bowled quickly. But we had to disrupt the routine. I was arranging the field and talking to bowlers when I seen Pant fall to the ground. The physiotherapist had come and started taping his knee. Klassen waited for the match to restart.
