Badminton star P.V. Sindhu performed Bhumi Puja for her academy on Thursday, stating that her goal is to teach and groom future players for top-level competitions. The Olympic silver medalist and her parents took part in priest-led rituals in the Thotaguru area. The institution will be built on two acres of land provided by the Andhra Pradesh government in 2021. Sindhu, the only Indian to win the badminton world championship, said the building would begin soon and that the academy would be finished within a year.

The 29-year-old stated that the number of players to be trained and other details about the training regimens will be published soon. The ace shuttler went to ‘X’ to discuss the development.

“We are excited to get started ground with the PV Sindhu Academy for Badminton and Sport Excellence in Tirupati!” This is more than simply a facility; it’s an adventurous step toward elevating a future crop of champions and rekindling the spirit of supremacy in Indian exercise,” she wrote.

“With the steadfast backing of my brilliant team and affiliates, we are building a thing that will inspire, promote, and shape the evolution of Indian sports and generations to come,” she told reporters. Sindhu requested land from then-Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in September 2019 to establish a badminton academy in Visakhapatnam, shortly after winning her first BWF World Championships gold.

In 2021, the government handed two out of three acres of land from the Department of Animal Husbandry in Chinagadili, Visakhapatnam Rural, to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs. The Department of Revenue allotted the remaining one acre to the Department of Medical Health. Later, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs granted Sindhu two acres to establish a badminton academy and sports school.

Sindhu thanked the Chief Minister for allocating the property and stated that she is determined to grow sports in Andhra Pradesh. “There is no badminton academy in Visakhapatnam, thus it was decided to establish one with the best infrastructure available. We will construct the academy during the first phase. The next step is a proposal to establish a sports school. I am still playing. Will take on training roles at the academy after leaving from the game,” she stated.
