Yadav, Suryakumar, and Shivam Dube lit up the Sayed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament with their outstanding batting performances. Suryakumar and Dube excelled for Mumbai in their match against Services at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The T20 World Champion duo put up a 130-run stand to help Mumbai to a difficult total of 192/4. Batting first, Mumbai lost Prithvi Shaw for a duck, while skipper Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane contributed only 20 and 22 runs, respectively.
Dube and Suryakumar came to Mumbai’s rescue, launching a bombardment of boundaries and maximums. Suryakumar hit a 46-ball 70 and Dube hit a 37-ball 71 for a stunning strike rate of 191.89.
Suryakumar had been bought by Mumbai Indians for ₹ 16.35 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings retained Dube for Rs 12 crore.
Suryakumar, India’s T20I skipper, returned to action for Mumbai in the SMAT on Tuesday, December 3. He returned to the field after a two-week leave for a family wedding. Suryakumar is scheduled to play the remainder of the tournament for Mumbai and will also compete in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy, which begins on December 21.
Shreyas Iyer, who was announced as Mumbai’s SMAT captain, continued to lead the side despite the presence of Suryakumar, India’s T20I captain. Suryakumar was understood to be cool with Iyer leading the team and was comfortable batting in any position.
Suryakumar recently guided India to a convincing 3-1 series victory over South Africa on their turf. Meanwhile, India’s white-ball specialist, Dube, did not make the tour squad. Mumbai is fourth in Group E, having won two of their three games so far, and they have two league games remaining after Sunday’s match against Nagaland.
the actors Hardik P Iyer, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, and other high-profile players have joined the ongoing SMAT following their T20I tour of South Africa.
