D Gukesh, an Indian Challenger, is sad to have lost the edge in the final stage of the World Championships by losing the 12th game to Ding Liren and admits that he had numerous chances in the second half of the exciting fight. With only two games remaining, the championship match is poised for an explosive finale. Both players are tied with six points each. “This game is kind of a disappointment. Luckily, I have a rest day tomorrow; I’ll just try to play well,” Gukesh stated after losing the 12th game.

I had several opportunities in the second half of the game. Today was a horrible game, and I won’t draw too many conclusions from it. We both played better than in the first half, but I believe I had more chances in the second.

Speaking on the game in general, Gukesh claimed he thought he was fine, “I was secure after the opening but now after his 16th move I was not sure”. The Indian, dissatisfied with his 17th move, claimed it was simply a “mistake”.

Gukesh spoke about his new opening choice, a reverse Benonin, saying, “I was prepared for a few moves; I didn’t remember all of the information, but I was aware of this position.Speaking about the new match situation, which has Liren and him tied on six points, the Indian stated, “Obviously, losing this game is not pleasant. Yesterday, things could have gone either way. At the very least, the scores are still knotted; there are two more games left, so we’ll see.” Liren stated that he rested extensively following the catastrophe on Sunday.

“Yesterday was a difficult game to deal with because I was much better at one point but spent far too little time on important occasions. “I ruined a very promising position,” he said. During his preparation, the Chinese stated that he was astonished again. I maintained pressure on my opponent during the game and did not slip like in the previous game.

“In the previous games, it was not so clear that I was also in danger of being worse, but today I realized I was much better,” Liren remarked when asked about not pressing sufficiently in previous games when he had opportunities.

Speaking about what rekindled his enthusiasm and how his trainer and mother assisted, “Well (Richard) Rivera sent me a file called strike back, and his mother said ‘You did it last time, you can do it again’.” PTI versus AT-AT
