Euro 2024 started on June 15 and will soon be moving to the next round of 16. There are a total of 24 teams in the European football tournament. The 24 teams are divided into A, B, C, D, E, and F groups, with four teams in each group. At the time of writing, all the teams except Groups E and F had played three group stage matches each.
Eleven teams have already qualified for the next round of 16, and only five places remain. The tournament will eliminate the teams that fail to qualify for the next round, and they will head home. The group stage of Euro 2024 is concluding with the last set of matches. In the last set of group-stage matches, teams will play a total of six games today and tomorrow.
According to the format, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the round of 16. Along with the top two teams, the four best-third-placed teams will also progress to the round of 16 of the Euro 2024 tournament.
Euro 2024 – Which Teams Have Qualified So Far?
With four groups completing their group-stage matches, the top two finishes in each group have confirmed eight teams for the next round of Euro 2024. Groups E and F will play their final group-stage matches today and tomorrow. So far, Denmark, Slovenia, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, France, England, and the Netherlands have qualified.
Here’s How The Teams Qualified
Germany: The host nation, Germany, was the first team to progress to the next round of the Euro 2024. They qualified after they won 2-0 against Hungary in their first match. They won again against Scotland, 5-1. Germany is confirmed to finish in the first two spots.
Spain: The World Cup winners were the second team to qualify for the round of 16. Spain won their first Croatia by 3-0. They won the second match against Italy by 1-0. They won the third match against Albania 1-0. Spain is the table topper in Group B with three wins.
Switzerland: The Swiss finished their Group A matches in the second spot and confirmed their place in the Round of 16. Switzerland started their campaign with a 3-1 win against Hungary. But they played a draw with Scotland. In their last group-stage match, they drew 1-1 with Germany and ended with 5 points.
Italy: They ended second in Group B with four points. The Italians started the campaign with a 2-1 win against Albania. But they lost against Spain and drew 1-1 with Croatia.
Portugal: Ronaldo’s Portugal qualified by winning against Turkey. They also won against the Czech Republic by 2-1. Portugal is the table-topper in Group F with two wins in two matches.
France: They won their first match against Austria by 1-0 but played a goalless draw with the Netherlands. They again drew, but 1-1 against Poland. France stands second in Group D.
England: After two matches, England had four points, which is enough to get third place in Group C. They qualified even before they played against Slovenia.
Netherlands: The Dutch had already qualified before they played against Austria. They won the first match against Poland by 2-1. But they drew with France. They lost the last match to Austria. The Netherlands is third in Group D with four points.
Austria: They lost the first match to France but won against Poland by 3-1. They beat the Netherlands by 3-2 to end Group D on top.
Denmark: They finished the group stage second with three points. Denmark had a goalless draw with Serbia. Both Denmark and Serbia had the same stats after three games but qualified because they have a better FIFA ranking (9) than Serbia (15).
Slovenia: They had a goalless draw with England and finished the group stage with three points. They also had the same stats but qualified as a result of better FIFA rankings.
