Dhinidhi Desinghu, India’s teenage swimming sensation, will make her Olympic debut in the 2018 Summer Games in Paris, France. Ahead of the Paris Olympics, Dhinidhi discussed her early problems and how she disliked swimming in pools. Fast forward to 2024, and the 14-year-old qualified for the women’s 200m freestyle on a universal quota. Dhinidhi also said that her parents wanted her to participate in an activity, and swimming was an obvious choice because they had a pool directly next to their home.
But I did not like the water and did not want to go in. I couldn’t get my feet or head into the water. It was a challenge. I was six years old at the time. “My parents learned how to swim before I did. They got into the water to make me feel at ease, and that’s how it all began. Dhinidhi, who practices at Dolphin Aquatics in Bengaluru, also said she didn’t comprehend the fundamentals when she started swimming.
“I decided to reserve a bus ticket. I, too, have motion sickness, and we were constantly vomiting throughout. Dhinidhi responded, “No, I’m scared.” I don’t want to swim. But we had gone through so much to get there, so I told her we’d just go check the pool and then return if she wasn’t interested. She strolled around the pool, looked at me, and said, ‘I think I can do it’. She came up with the gold. That is it. “After that, she never had a fever or vomited before a competition,” Jesitha said.
