Congress leader criticizes Agniveers scheme as unfair to army and disrespectful to soldiers' sacrifice.

Following the deaths of two Agniveers in Nashik during training, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to explain why one soldier’s life is considered more important than another. He inquired about the reason why the families of the two soldiers, who perished as ‘Agniveers’, were not entitled to receive equal pension and benefits as other fallen soldiers, declaring his determination to continue battling against this “unfairness”. The tragic deaths of Agniveers Gohil Vishwaraj Singh and Saifat Sheet during training in Nashik are deeply saddening. My sincerest sympathies go out to their families.

The incident has once more brought up significant inquiries about the Agniveer scheme, to which the BJP government has not provided satisfactory answers. Will the families of Gohil and Saifat be provided with compensation in a timely manner that is equal to the compensation given to families of other soldiers who have been martyred? Gandhi inquired in a Hindi post on X. Why the families of Agniveers will not receive pension and other government benefits? He questioned why there is discrimination after the soldiers’ martyrdom when their responsibilities and sacrifices are equal.

Agniveers scheme was described by the Congress leader as a “disrespect” to the army and a “disgrace” to the sacrifice of our courageous soldiers. Gandhi stated that the prime minister and the defence minister must explain why the life of one soldier is considered more important than another soldier.

“Let’s unite in opposition to this unfairness.” He urged people to join the ‘Jai Jawan’ movement to eliminate the BJP government’s ‘Agniveer’ initiative and safeguard the future of the nation’s youth and military. Agniveers Gohil and Saifat lost their lives in a field firing drill in Nashik, Maharashtra. Numerous individuals paid homage to Agniveer Vishvarajsinh Gohil as his body was brought back to his hometown Anchvad village in Rajkot district, Gujarat.
