The NRC and Bangladesh issue has come up ahead of the upcoming by-elections in Assam on November 13. Congress has alleged that the BJP candidate is not from the area. Nihar Ranjan Das, BJP candidate from Dholai assembly, has a father who has been residing in Bangladesh for a number of years. In 1971, he arrived in India personally.
In reaction to Congress’ accusations, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claims that Congress is putting Bengali Hindus at risk by raising doubts about Nihar Ranjan’s Indian citizenship. This is a component of their scheme. Nevertheless, a BJP leader was the first to bring up this matter and he went against the party by claiming that the party was granting tickets to outsiders instead of prioritizing locals.
Jitendra Singh, General Secretary of the Congress Central Committee, stated that the BJP would need to explain how they selected a candidate whose father remains in Bangladesh. Singh mentioned that a senior BJP leader has made this accusation and he expects Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to respond to it.
During his Tuesday visit to Dholai, Sarma claimed that the Congress party is aiming to endanger Bengali Hindus by bringing up this issue. We have addressed this problem, bringing comfort to numerous Bengali Hindus in this location. However, Congress plans to increase it once more with improper motives.
The issue of Nihar Ranjan Das’ citizenship was initially brought up by senior BJP figure Amiya Kanti Das. He felt upset with the party for not receiving a ticket in the by-election and had also stepped down from the party. Amiya initially submitted her candidacy as an independent nominee from Dholai, but later retracted her nomination following a discussion with BJP officials.
During a meeting last month, Amiya mentioned that Nihar Ranjan Das’s parents have never been seen here. He is an outsider himself. Evidence shows that his parents reside in a different nation. Someone with this heritage should not be our representative.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in a rally in Dholai and commended Amiya Kanti Das for pulling back his nomination. I phoned him and he agreed to retract it. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that we ought to show appreciation towards him. The issue has been settled and Amiya is now in our presence. Nihar has resided in this place for numerous years, his name was included in the NRC, and he successfully completed his Class 10 examinations here. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “He belongs to us and we are familiar with him.”
Reports indicate that Amiya was presented with a substantial amount of money and a party position before deciding to withdraw his nomination. Nevertheless, he refuted these allegations and stated that he adheres to the RSS ideology and supports the BJP for the advancement of Hindus. Amiya told HT that he has been a member of the BJP since 1989 and is influenced by the RSS ideology. He stated that he would provide assistance if Nihar’s parents are currently in Bangladesh and attempting to enter India.
