To improve transparency and public safety, the Himachal Pradesh government mandated on September 25 that all food establishments in the state must display the names and addresses of operators, proprietors, and managers.
Following the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath, a recent directive was issued requiring food establishments to prominently showcase the names of their owners to deter instances of contamination in beverages and food across various regions.
During a meeting with the Public Works Urban Development and Municipal Corporation, Congress leader and minister Vikramaditya Singh revealed that an order requiring outlet owners to display their details has been issued, as shared in a Facebook post.
In Himachal, every eatery and fast food place must show the owner’s identification to prevent any inconvenience for customers. Singh wrote in a Facebook post that guidelines for this were provided in the Urban Development and Municipal Corporation meeting held yesterday.
The reason behind UP Govt’s decision
While meeting with high-ranking state officials, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed serious alarm about cases of food adulteration, stating that not only are these actions repugnant but they also present significant health dangers.
He called for strict punishment for those who mix human waste in food, emphasizing that it is not only disgusting but also a major health hazard.
Several worrisome cases of food contamination led to the implementation of these measures by the UP government in the public sphere. On September 12, a video went viral showing a teen spitting on rotis as they were being prepared at a restaurant in Saharanpur district. He was subsequently taken into custody for the action.
In another case, a juice seller in Ghaziabad was taken into custody last week for adding urine to fruit juice, as per reports. Two Noida men were apprehended in June for distributing juice tainted with their spit, mirroring a previous event.
