In a remarkable start to her political journey, Bollywood star and BJP member Kangana Ranaut is currently leading in the race for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, boasting a significant lead of 69,335 votes as of 12:58 pm, as reported by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Marking her first foray into electoral politics on the day the results of the 2024 elections were announced, Kangana sought the blessings of her mother, a moment she chose to share on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The pictures she shared capture a heartfelt moment with her mother, who is seen performing a traditional blessing ritual, feeding Kangana curd and sugar—a customary way to wish luck. Kangana expressed her devotion to her mother in her post, stating, “Mother is the form of God, today my mother is feeding me curd and sugar,” accompanied by a folded hand emoji.
Kangana’s determination
On this pivotal day, Kangana revealed her determination and confidence in her eventual victory. In a statement captured by ANI, she emphasized her commitment to her homeland and the people of her constituency. “Mandi has shown its disapproval of any disrespect towards daughters. As for moving to Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh is my birthplace; my service to its people is my priority. It seems someone else might need to leave, but I’m here to stay,” she asserted.
Currently, Kangana is outpacing her opponent, Congress’s Vikramaditya Singh, in the initial count for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, a constitution previously held by BJP’s Ram Swaroop Sharma in 2014 and 2019, with notable vote shares.
Kangana, who has openly supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for some time, made her official entry into the party earlier this year, accepting her candidacy with gratitude. “I’ve always supported the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party of my beloved India.
I’m honored that the party’s national leadership has chosen me as their Lok Sabha candidate for my home, Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency. I’m committed to being a dedicated worker and reliable public servant,” Kangana expressed in a statement on March 24, following the announcement of her candidacy.
Hailing from a family with political and educational backgrounds—her great-grandfather, Sarju Singh Ranaut, was an MLA, and her mother, Asha Ranaut, a retired schoolteacher from Mandi—it seems Kangana is set to continue her family’s legacy in public service.
