The Election Commission has rescheduled the date of by-elections for 14 assembly seats. From these, 9 seats in the assembly are from UP, 4 seats are from Punjab, and 1 seat is from Kerala. The Election Commission has announced that voting for these 14 assembly seats has been rescheduled from November 13 to November 20. Nonetheless, the vote tallying will take place solely on November 23. Allow us to inform you that the previous scheduled date for voting on these assembly seats was November 13.

The Election Commission received requests from BJP, Congress, and other regional parties to change the date of the assembly by-elections on November 13 due to conflicting religious and social events that may pose challenges for conducting the elections and impact voter turnout.

The Election Commission has announced that by-elections will be conducted on November 20 for assembly seats in Palakkad, Kerala, and Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha, and Barnala in Punjab. In addition, there will be voting on November 20 for 9 seats in UP, including Ghaziabad, Phulpur, Khair, Katehri, Karhal, Meerapur, Majhawan, Sisamau, and Kundarki seats.

The Election Commission announced by-elections for 48 assembly constituencies and 2 parliamentary constituencies in 15 states on October 15 of the previous month, according to its order. Different well-known national and state political parties (BJP, Congress, BSP, RLD) as well as a few social organizations had submitted requests to the Commission to reschedule the voting date in certain assembly constituencies with upcoming by-elections on November 13. It was suggested that extensive social, cultural, and religious events on that day could create problems for many individuals, ultimately leading to lower voter turnout during elections. Taking these factors into account, the Commission has opted to reschedule the by-elections for certain assembly seats.
