Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announces Jharkhand, Maharashtra elections.

As per the schedule set by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly polls are scheduled to take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the outcome anticipated to be announced on November 23. CEC Rajiv Kumar announced 9.63 crore eligible voters in Maharashtra, including about 21 lakh first-time voters. The NDA, consisting of BJP, AJSU, and Janata Dal (United) in the state, will face off against the JMM, a part of the INDIA bloc. In 2019, Hemant Soren became chief minister after his JMM secured 30 seats and Congress won 16.

The JMM-led coalition won six seats in the most recent Lok Sabha elections. The Congress won two seats, and JMM won three seats on its own. Seven seats were gained by the BJP, and one was won by its ally, the All Jharkhand Students’ Union. However, all five of the seats allocated to ST candidates were won by the JMM coalition. The JMM-led alliance will run for all 81 seats in the next assembly elections, according to a recent announcement by Soren.

The Congress said on Tuesday that it will work with the JMM to run in the Jharkhand assembly elections and that they will soon determine how to divide seats. “We plan to participate in elections alongside our alliance counterparts within the state.” Soon, a final decision about seat distribution will be made.

Keshav Mahto, president of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, stated that we are confident in our ability to win elections as a result of the development work we have done. The allocation of seats among NDA allies for the elections is almost finished, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam and one of the BJP’s leaders for the assembly elections. Within 48 hours of the polls being announced, the preliminary list of candidates will be made public.
