On September 19, 2024, Delhi’s political landscape is changing dramatically. Atishi Marlena, the head of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is slated to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi, with an oath ceremony set for September 21, 2024. The AAP’s parliamentarians unanimously selected Atishi, a well-known politician who is now the Kalkaji MLA, to succeed Arvind Kejriwal. This change follows Kejriwal’s resignation due to his role in the Delhi liquor policy lawsuit.

Atishi would succeed Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj as the third woman to serve as Chief Minister of Delhi.

Along with her, a few new ministers and other well-known figures from the previous administration are anticipated to join the new Delhi cabinet (India Today). A few months before the Delhi Assembly elections that are set for early 2025, this modification takes place.

Following the departure of incumbent Arvind Kejriwal, minister Atishi of Delhi will assume the role of chief minister of India’s national capital region, according to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

AAP leader Amit Shah made the declaration on Tuesday in New Delhi during a meeting with his party’s lawmakers. The AAP released a statement that stated, “Atishi steps up to lead Delhi until the upcoming elections, carrying the weight of both CM Arvind Kejriwal’s vision and the national capital’s future.”
