At the Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage (JMCH), BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya held a “purification ceremony” to combat corruption and welcome former Congress council members into the party.
Using “gaumutra” and “gangajal” in the ritual, Acharya—the mahant of the Hathoj Dham temple—promised to purify officials and council members who had supposedly been coerced into corruption.
This incident happened after former JMCH Mayor Munesh Gurjar was ousted over accusations of corruption. With the backing of one independent and seven Congress council members, Kusum Yadav was subsequently named the new mayor and joined the BJP.
Using Vedic mantras and chants, Balmukund Acharya conducted the cleansing ritual before to Yadav’s official inauguration. “We have used ‘Gangajal’ to purify the corporation and remove all impurities,” he said, indicating that the new leadership would function in a pristine atmosphere.
According to Balmukund Acharya, the Congress council members who joined the BJP were a part of the ceremony that turned them into “Sanatanis.” He said, “They have been cleansed of any impurity or corruption.”
Even the municipal corporation officers went through the purifying process, the BJP MLA stressed, as they had been “forced to indulge in corruption.” Balmukund Acharya declared that they would henceforth operate with honesty and integrity following the ceremony.
Although there were some negative reactions to the ceremony, council members who joined the BJP said that the goal was to eradicate negativity and corruption. “Using ‘Gangajal’ and ‘gaumutra’ for purification is a normal practice in Hindu culture,” said Councillor Manoj Mudgal. Another council member, Paras Jain, reaffirmed that the ceremony was intended to rid the position of corruption. The clarification provided by Councillor Sushila Devi was that “he was purifying the entire premises, not just us.”
Reportedly, Balmukund Acharya declared to reporters that the ceremony marked a fresh start for the JMCH, asserting that “as of today, this corporation is free of corruption.”
Swarnim Chaturvedi, the state general secretary of the Congress, responded to the event by saying, “BJP leaders in the state and Center first accuse Congress leaders of corruption.” Investigating agencies like the ED, IT, and CBI threaten them, but they are cleared of all charges when they join the BJP.”
