The incident involving the death of a teenager while in police custody in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has sparked widespread discussion. The deceased individual’s name is Mohit Pandey. Following the incident, the family members also obstructed the road in order to demand accountability from the police officers responsible. Now, Akhilesh Yadav, the previous Chief Minister of the state and leader of the Samajwadi Party, has made a pointed remark on this matter. The ex-CM mentioned that this is the second incident of death in police custody within the capital in the past 16 days.
Akhilesh Yadav also suggested that the government, known for changing names, should rename police custody as Atyachaar Grih. Every request made by the victim’s family must be satisfied, we stand by their side. The ex-CM’s remark was made while the victim’s family was protesting in front of the minister’s home in Vibhuti Khand. Females from the household were observed demonstrating on the street as well.
Conversely, the victim’s family had a meeting with MLA Yogesh Shukla. He provided financial support to the family as well. According to the family members, Mohit Pandey passed away while in police custody. Nevertheless, the police is rejecting the family’s assertion. The authorities have also published a video of the detention area showing Mohit Pandey lying on the ground as his friends comfort him. Additionally, a friend is also observed contacting the authorities.
The authorities have also filed a case based on the statement from Tapeshwari Devi, the mother of the deceased. The family claimed in their complaint that the police initially assaulted their younger son Mohit, who later passed away in the lockup. The deceased’s mother filed a complaint against Chinhat police station in-charge Ashwani Chaturvedi and others, citing serious sections.
Mohit and his brother Shobharam were held by Chinhat police on Friday due to their involvement in a brawl. Mohit’s condition worsened at Chinhat police station on Saturday morning. He was granted entry to Lohia Hospital. He passed away while receiving medical care. Mohit lived in Nai Basti Jainabad village in the Uptran region along Deva Road in Chinhat.
