In a collaborative action undertaken by the police forces of Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand, a total of 14 suspects have been detained, and 10 firearms have been seized in relation to several burglaries targeting jewellery stores throughout the region.

Alapan Bandyopadhyay, the Chief Adviser to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, mentioned that the apprehended gangs had been concocting plans for future heists, which have now been successfully prevented thanks to the coordinated efforts.

The breakthrough in arrests was achieved with technological tools provided by the Bihar and Jharkhand police. Notably, seven individuals hailing from Jharkhand were caught for involvement in a jewellery store heist in Raghunathpur, Purulia, in 2022. In a related development, members of a gang responsible for a robbery in Domjur, Howrah, were apprehended in Samastipur.

Further, Manoj Verma, the ADG (Law and Order), shared that the Special Task Force of the Asansol-Durgapur police force managed to arrest four individuals — two from Bengal and two from Jharkhand — and also confiscated a vehicle implicated in an attempted robbery.

Moreover, the police successfully unravelled the case of a jewellery store robbery on June 9 in Ranigani, where they exchanged gunfire with the robbers. The culprits were tracked down with the help of CCTV footage from the vicinity and the store. Verma disclosed that jewellery valued at approximately Rs 2.5 crore was reclaimed. In the last two years, the police have apprehended 140 people linked to cross-state criminal activities.
