National pollution in the country A session took place in the Supreme Court regarding the poor air quality in the capital, Delhi. In the meantime, the court asserted that no faith advocates for pollution. The court stated that if firecrackers are set off, it also impacts the fundamental right of individuals to health. The Supreme Court has again scolded the Delhi Police. The court stated that the prohibition on firecrackers is merely a facade. The prohibition was not enforced diligently. The Supreme Court has requested that the Police Commissioner submit an affidavit by November 25.

A panel of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih inquired why the prohibition on producing, selling, and bursting firecrackers is enforced exclusively from October to January and not throughout the entire year. The court asked, ‘Why just for a couple of months? Air pollution continues to rise all year round.

The court stated that the Commissioner of Delhi Police must submit an affidavit detailing the measures taken to prohibit firecrackers. The Delhi Police Commissioner has been instructed to create a dedicated unit to enforce a ban on firecrackers. Additionally, all NCR states have been instructed to update the court on the measures they have implemented to mitigate pollution.

The lawyer for the Delhi government presented the court with the order that prohibited firecrackers. Justice Oka stated, “Your affidavit indicates that you will prohibit firecrackers solely during the Diwali festival.” “You will not prohibit them during weddings and elections.” Subsequently, the lawyer for the Delhi government stated that your request for a permanent ban will be evaluated following discussions with all parties involved.

In spite of an absolute prohibition on firecracker usage during Diwali, Delhi was labeled the most polluted city globally. Since that time, the air quality in the capital has stayed in the ‘very poor’ range.
