The Madras High Court has rejected a petition challenging the Padma Vibhushan award conferred upon Sadhguru. In this petition, it was asserted that discrepancies occurred during the awarding of Padma Vibhushan to Sadhguru. Nevertheless, the court rejected the petition, labeling it as driven by personal interest and stated that the petitioner’s intent is to focus on an individual, indicating that the petition does not serve the public interest.
The Additional Solicitor General representing the Central Government informed the court that Sadhguru’s valuable contributions over the years have been acknowledged and he was nominated for the Padma Vibhushan award after completing all required procedures. No complaints or negative feedback have been identified concerning this award.
The Additional Solicitor General also mentioned that this alleged PIL was submitted by a group that has consistently lodged petitions against Isha Foundation in numerous instances. He mentioned that in previous cases brought by the same group against Isha Foundation, the High Court indicated that their intent might be for personal benefit.
Isha Foundation has applauded the High Court’s decision, stating that it enhances the transparency of the award process and demonstrates their dedication to public interest. In addition to this, the foundation stated that regardless of these attacks, it will persist in its efforts for the public good.
Last month, the Supreme Court also rejected another petition submitted by a retired professor, Dr S Kamaraj, who claimed that his two daughters, one 42 years old and the other 39, were residing at the Isha Foundation involuntarily.
The Supreme Court dismissed this assertion and made clear that both women are residing in the Isha Foundation voluntarily and without any coercion. During the hearing, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stated that the aim of such proceedings ought not to be to discredit institutions and individuals.
