The NEET 2024 exam has been a center of controversy since June started. On June 4, the National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2024 results. Students and parents alike sharply disapproved of the result. The disapproval was so strong that they had to move to court. People filed petitions in court challenging the NEET 2024 results.

The petitions were filed for three major concerns: awarding grace marks to some students, allegations of leaked question papers, and irregularities at some exam centers. These are some serious concerns for both students and parents. There have been protests calling for an investigation and re-examination.

As a result, a panel was formed of four members to review the NEET UG 2024 results. Amidst the controversy, NTA has canceled the graze marks awarded to some students. The NTA said, “The committee has decided to cancel the scorecards of the 1,563 NEER-UG 2024 candidates who received grace marks, and these students will have the option to take a re-test.”

NEET Exam On June 23

Students protesting against the 2024 NEET UG exam

The NTA said, “The exam will be conducted on June 23, and the results will be declared before June 30.” The students who don’t want to reappear for the exam will have to accept the original marks without the grace marks.

From these facts, the four-member bench has issued the following order:

“The petitioner, who appeared for NEET-UG 2024, has raised concerns regarding the allocation of compensatory marks to 1,563 candidates. These candidates were granted compensatory marks through the normalization formula due to not being allowed the full 3 hours and 20 minutes at their examination centers, resulting in a shorter examination time.”

Reasons For The Controversy

The NEET UG exam was conducted on May 5 and saw the participation of more than 24 lakh students. Results were supposed to be declared on June 14, but they were declared 10 days earlier, on June 4.

Following are the reasons why the exam has sparked controversy:

Another allegation related to the exam is that the scores were manipulated. 67 students got perfect 720 marks. Some students even scored 718, 719 marks, according to students and experts, it is impossible to score this much.

It raises questions that numerous toppers of NEET UG 2024 are from the same exam centers. The NEET UG 2024 had many flaws. Flaws that can ruin students’ lives. The parents and students complained about the question paper being leaked. Some reports say that some students had paid lakhs of rupees to get the leaked paper. The allegations are still being investigated and new information is coming forward.
