On Friday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar emphasized the mandatory hoisting of the Kannada flag at all educational institutions, businesses, and factories, including those in the information technology and biotechnology sector, in Bengaluru on November 1, the state’s formation day. About half of the population living in the city and Bengaluru Urban district are from different states, according to him, and they should make an effort to prioritize learning Kannada.
Kannadigas celebrate November 1, as the in-charge Minister for Bengaluru, I have created a new program where the Kannada flag must be raised at all schools, colleges, factories, businesses, including the IT-BT sector,” Shivakumar mentioned. He informed reporters that an order would be issued in relation to this.
The yellow and red ‘Kannada flag’, created by Veera Senani Ma Ramamurthy in the 1960s, is widely recognized despite being unofficial. It is mandatory for all organizations, educational institutions, factories, businesses, and others to fly the Kannada flag. Shivakumar stated that Rajyotsava celebrations will take place at a single location, but it is mandatory for both private and government schools to also hold celebrations to promote love and affection for the Kannada language among students.
Shivakumar stated that everyone must understand Kannada to live in Karnataka. In addition to raising the Kannada flag on November 1, schools and colleges should also organize cultural events, similar to those held on Independence and Republic Days. He mentioned that the Kannada flag deserves to be treated with respect.
The Minister clarified that he wasn’t requesting factories and businesses to arrange cultural events, but the Kannada flag must be raised without fail. Inquired about possible penalties for those who do not comply with the government order, he responded by stating: “I want to make it clear that it is an obligation for everyone on this Kannada soil to learn Kannada.” Kannada is mandatory in school curriculum…..similar events of flying Kannada flags are held in villages, while in Bengaluru city – as district minister, I am enforcing it as a requirement.” Shivakumar cautioned pro-Kannada groups about facing legal consequences if they attempt to pressure institutions or businesses to make the move. He said institutions and businesses will do it willingly once requested by the government.
