Flood Situation In Bihar Gets Worse
Flood situation in Bihar gets worse

Following significant rains and the accompanying breach of water levels from the Kosi River and Bagmati River in the districts of Darbhanga and Sitamarhi, respectively, several portions of Bihar are experiencing severe flooding on Monday. Over the previous two to three days, the water levels in several rivers throughout the state have risen, prompting the state administration to issue a flood warning.

Authorities in Darbhanga claim that the Kosi River overflowed its embankment close to the Kartarpur block, submerging the villages of Kirtarpur and Ghanshyampur. Additionally, seepage was noted in the Bagmati River embankment in the Runni Saidpur block.

However, officials have advised that the situation is under control and there is no need to fear.

“So far, reports of embankment breaches have come from six different locations throughout the state. The repairs of some of them are already complete, while work on others is ongoing. Reports of water rushing over the embankments came from Kiratpur and Valmikinagar in Darbhanga. However, the water level in a number of rivers has now begun to drop, according to Bihar’s minister of water resources, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, who spoke with PTI.

He also mentioned that there have been no flood-related deaths in the state to date.

More than 16 lakh individuals were impacted; NDRG units were dispatched. According to officials, over 16 lakh people in the state have been impacted by the flooding. In Muzaffarpur, floodwaters also infiltrated the Katra Bakuchi electrical infrastructure, cutting off electricity to 45,000 households. According to officials, after the water level drops, they intend to bring back the electricity, according to ANI.

West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Ggopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Jehanabad, Madhubani, Araria, Purnea, Katihar, and Bhojpur are among the state’s impacted districts.

The state disaster management agency has sent out more teams from Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, as well as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDRF) and State Disaster Management Authority (SDRF), in light of the deteriorating circumstances.

In the meantime, significant rainfall is expected in various districts of Bihar on Monday, according to a “yellow” notice issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
