Government of Maharashtra, led by deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, has introduced a unique project called ‘Ghar Ghar Samvidhan’ (Constitution in Every Home) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution in the academic year 2024-25. The goal of the program is to enhance students’ understanding of the Constitution by teaching them about their rights, responsibilities, and the fundamental principles outlined in the Constitution in schools, colleges, and educational institutions.
The project is detailed in a Government Resolution (GR) released by the state, highlighting the significance of aiding students in comprehending their basic rights and duties as citizens. The government thinks that this initiative will not just improve their understanding of the constitution but also foster a stronger feeling of social justice, unity, and national pride.
Under the ‘Ghar Ghar Samvidhan’ program, schools and colleges in the state must prominently showcase the Preamble and goals of the Indian Constitution. These guiding principles of the nation will be prominently displayed in areas like school classrooms, corridors, and hostels for students to easily see and contemplate. In addition, the goals of the Constitution will be incorporated into daily readings at school dormitories.
To enhance students’ comprehension of the Constitution, Maharashtra government plans to arrange lectures lasting 60-90 minutes in schools. These presentations will discuss subjects like the process of Constitution-making, its different parts, and the responsibilities and privileges of citizens. Educators will also familiarize students with the philosophical principles behind the Constitution, aiding them in understanding its importance in contemporary India. Furthermore, there will be specific workshops and seminars held to emphasize the significance of the Constitution.
Maharashtra Government Relations has requested educational institutions to showcase educational posters and banners outlining various sections of the Constitution. It has also promoted innovative forms of involvement, like organizing street performances to increase awareness. Educational contests such as essay writing, debates, and elocution competitions centered on constitutional topics will be organized to motivate students to actively participate in the subject matter.
Furthermore, Maharashtra government has ordered that all local self-government meetings must begin by reading the Preamble. This requirement will also apply to state assembly sessions, helping to further incorporate the Constitution into everyday governance and civic events.
In order to ensure the successful implementation of the ‘Ghar Ghar Samvidhan’ program, a 12-person committee at the state level will be established with Maharashtra’s chief secretary as chairperson. A committee of seven members, headed by the district collector, will oversee the local implementation of the initiative at the district level, making sure that all schools and educational institutions are involved in this significant event.
