CJI DY Chandrachud offered a generous present to the reporters prior to his departure. The Chief Justice of India has granted journalists covering Supreme Court news an exemption. The change is that journalists reporting on Supreme Court news no longer require an LLB degree. He wondered why journalists covering the Supreme Court are required to have a law degree to be accredited reporters.
As per a report by Bar and Bench, the Chief Justice of India stated, “We are engaged in two activities. I approved a document in order to raise the amount of authorized journalists covering the Supreme Court. I was unaware of the reason for requiring an LLB degree. “We have made it less strict.”
The CJI’s initiative enables journalists without legal backgrounds to seek accreditation in the supreme court. He mentioned that authorized journalists will now receive parking privileges at the Supreme Court premises. A ‘Pre Diwali Celebration’ took place on October 24 at the Supreme Court premises. While conversing with the media, the CJI mentioned this.
The Supreme Court altered its standards for identifying legal reporters in 2018. The Chief Justice of India has been granted the authority to use his judgment to exempt the LLB degree requirement for being recognized as a reporter in the Supreme Court. CJI Chandrachud has now completely eliminated this requirement.
