The caste survey in Telangana commences today. The Telangana government has stated that this survey will be conducted at the people’s doorsteps. The aim is to gather economic and social information about individuals based on their caste, which will help identify disadvantaged individuals from all sectors of society based on social, economic, and educational criteria.
The state government aims to finish this survey within one month. Not only government officials but also Congress leaders will be involved in the survey to encourage people and support officials.
Every surveyor will go to approximately 150 homes and inquire over 50 questions to the residents. Based on this report, the state government thinks that welfare and development programs for the underprivileged can be carried out efficiently.
Rahul Gandhi, the opposition leader in Lok Sabha, commended the initiative, stating that it was more than just a caste survey and was aimed at establishing a foundation for progress. He acknowledged that the state government’s caste survey may have some flaws, but they will be addressed. Rahul Gandhi stated that the discrimination in India is severe and has an impact on our Constitution.
Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning why he hasn’t explicitly stated his commitment to ending discrimination in India. He inquired why the Prime Minister is hesitant to inquire about the number of Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis in the corporate, judiciary, and media sectors. Rahul Gandhi stated that he does not support a government-led initiative for a “bureaucratic caste census.” He desires for Dalits, OBCs, and OBCs to have the autonomy to determine the survey questions.
