On Sunday, armed individuals launched gunfire and executed multiple bomb assaults from elevated regions in certain areas of the Lamlai assembly constituency within Manipur’s Imphal East district. Authorities reported that the Army, Border Security Force, and police responded, resulting in intense gun battles in Sansabi, Sabungkhok Khunou.

He stated that because of the gunfire from the mountainous regions into the lower parts of Sansabi, the farmers cannot tend to their crops. In this scenario, a tense atmosphere has developed in the villages. Authorities stated that extra personnel have been sent to manage the situation.

Earlier on November 7, a woman was killed in Thamanpokpi village. This woman’s name was Sapam Sofia; she had traveled to the field to gather paddy. During this period, alleged militants began shooting from a range of approximately 100 meters. The woman was killed in the shooting.

In Jiribam district as well, a case of a woman being assaulted followed by an attempt to set her on fire has emerged. The authorities have commenced inquiries into both of these events. There are indications that there is an effort to destabilize the region again by means of violence.

The history of violence in Manipur is connected to ethnic and political disputes. A prolonged dispute has existed among the Kuki, Naga, and Meitei groups in the state. The matter of Manipur is also related to the rights of autonomy, identity, and self-rule. Since the 1990s, numerous militant groups have arisen in Manipur, seeking to safeguard their ethnic identity and advocate for separation from the state. As a result, there has been regular violence, gunfire, and military operations in this area.
