Shobha Karandlaje, a Union Minister, made a visit to Munambam area in Kochi. Following that, he made remarks regarding the allegations made by the Waqf Board. He asserted that a strong land mafia is attempting to take land from farmers and the poor through deceptive Waqf claims. He also mentioned that the land mafia is engaging in land jihad.

Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje raised doubts about the issue, stating that at the time the Wakf Act was enacted in 1954, the Wakf Board owned just 10,000 acres of land nationwide. Currently, it ranks as the third biggest landholder in India following Defence and Railways, owning 38 lakh acres. From where did all this land originate? He mentioned that the individuals in Munambam had ownership of this property until 2019 and it ought to be returned to them.

Shobha Karandlaje raised concerns about the occurrences of land acquisition incidents. She claimed that previously, the names of farmers and landowners were listed in the land records, but now the Wakf Board is asserting ownership of these lands. In only Karnataka, Muslim leaders have taken possession of approximately 29,000 acres of land.

The minister assured the demonstrating individuals that she would bring up their issues to the JPC. Karankadlaje also emphasized that the central government is thoroughly investigating the issue and will take all essential measures to safeguard the welfare of impoverished farmers. She requested that the local residents maintain their trust in the government.

The residents of Cherai and Munambam claim to possess registered documents and evidence of paying land tax. However, the Waqf Board is making illegal claims to their land and properties. CM Pinarayi Vijayan promised the protesters in Kerala that their concerns will be addressed.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Minister Suresh Gopi stated that the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024 will definitely be passed in Parliament. Gopi stated that the Waqf legislation is a type of harshness. Additionally, he mentioned that such cruelty will not be tolerated in India and strict actions will be implemented.
