Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a tour of three countries. He will also take part in the G-20 summit taking place in Brazil. To achieve this, he will be touring Brazil from November 18 to 19. At the summit, the Prime Minister will articulate India’s position on significant global issues and will highlight the outcomes of the New Delhi Declaration. Following that, he will travel to the African nation of Nigeria and the South American nation of Guyana. The Ministry of External Affairs provided this information in a press release.

PM Modi’s primary engagement during the three-country trip will be participating in the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 18-19. India is included in the G20 trio alongside Brazil, the present G20 chair, and South Africa, set to host the summit next year.

The announcement mentioned that prior to Brazil, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Nigeria on November 16-17. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to this African nation in 17 years. PM Modi is visiting Nigeria at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In addition to assessing the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria during this visit, PM Modi will explore ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.

In this two-day trip, he will also speak to a congregation of the Indian community. India and Nigeria have been strategic allies since 2007, marked by increasing collaboration in economic, energy, and defense sectors. Close to 200 Indian firms have put over $27 billion into Nigeria.

Likewise, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to undertake a state visit to Guyana from November 19 to 21. This will mark the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to this location since 1968. This trip is occurring at the request of President Mohammed Irfan Ali. During this visit, Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with Ali. In addition to this, he will hold meetings with high-ranking leaders of Guyana and will also speak to the Parliament and a group of NRIs.

During his time in Guyana, Modi will participate in the second CARICOM-India Summit in Georgetown and engage in discussions with the leaders of CARICOM member states to strengthen India’s ties with the region. In 2023, Guyana’s President Ali visited India as the chief guest at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held in Madhya Pradesh, where he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman. The significant point is that roughly 40 percent of Guyana’s population consists of Indians. India and Guyana both belonged to the British Empire throughout the colonial era.
